Japanese electronics major Sony finally pulled the wraps off its much-speculated Xperia Z1 smartphone in Berlin today.

Xperia Z1 sports a 5.0-inch full HD (1920x1080p) TFT TRILUMINOS display with the innovative 'X-Reality for Mobiles' screen technology and runs on Android mobile OS v4.2.2 Jelly Bean powered by 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor with Adreno 330 graphics engine.

The new phone houses 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory with options of storage expansion up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

With the launch, Sony has finally put to rest the rumours of 4K (3840x2160p) ultra HD resolution video-recording feature in Xperia Z1.

However, other speculations such as G-Lens and BIONZ image processor specifications of the 20.7-megapixel camera in Xperia Z1 have turned out true. The main camera boasts of ½.3-type CMOS Exmor RS image sensor which is capable of recording standard full HD 1080x1920p resolution video.

To further enhance the photography experience, the smartphone is said come with time-shift burst mode which lets users snap 61 photos in two seconds. It also comes with Social Live which allows users to broadcast live video on social platforms like Facebook. The Info-eye, an intuitive visual search feature, gives information on landmarks, books or any object or picture taken by the user. There is also the AR Effect feature which lets users to put 'Augmented Reality' custom animation onto a picture.

Other noteworthy features include water-resistant and dust-proof IP55/IP58 certifications which allows users to take snapshots under five-feet of water for close to 30 minutes.

The smartphone ships with a high-capacity 3000 mAh battery with backup close to 14 hours of talk time, and 550 hours on standby time mode. The device also boasts off 3D and motion-gaming, gesture-control feature and NFC capabilities. It will come in three colour variants - black, white and purple.

Sony is said to showcase its Xperia Z1 at the annual international electronics show - IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) 2013, which is scheduled to take place during 6-11 September.

Sony has not mentioned Xperia Z1's price and availability. But rumours suggest that the new phone would get released in India by the third week of this month for a whopping ₹50,000 plus price-tag.
